7. A Three-Part People's Action Plan: Restore Democracy and Reduce Inequality

We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both!
- Justice Louis Brandeis

The root of the problem in the last 35 or 40 years in America is extreme economic inequality which leads to a dysfunctional democracy. This
video clearly shows the extreme  level of economic inequality. This video explains why that is a problem.

This 2016 presidential election year has been a wake-up call for many who want to build a more inclusive and progressive democratic society. However, these times present an opportunity to mobilize and stand up for a democracy with fairness and justice 4 all. As the saying goes, "Don't Agonize, Organize!"

What to  do?
 Here are my suggestions to Restore Democracy and Reduce Inequality:

First - Staying Informed - Check the following for a daily news sources that works for you - NY Times,  NPR,  or Democracy Now. For restoring democracy, the Brennan Center for Justice is a great resource. On reducing economic inequality, United for a Fair Economy and Inequality Weekly are good.

Second -
 Get Involved with a group like Represent.UsReclaim the American Dream or Our Revolution that is working to restore democracy and reduce  inequality.  Get on their email list and support their work. Check local groups listed below.

Third -
Take Action and publicly stand up for your values. Here are several ideas:
*
Wear a Wristband 4 Justice to stand up for your progressive values in a public way.
 Sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of the American Anti-Corruption Act at Represent.Us and support their 3 goals.
*  Participate in peaceful rallies supporting an economic/political system that works for everyone (similar to the 9/12/2016 Moral Monday National Action or the 1/21/17 Women's Marches).
*
Seek out local groups that you can support on restoring democracy and reducing inequality like LEPOCO Peace Center, Power Northeast  and Lehigh Valley for All.
Support groups that are working to elect progressive candidates - like Our RevolutionDemocracy for America, Progressive Democrats of America, Green Party, or Working Families Party.
Record contact info for your 5 elected officials and contact one each week. Check HERE for that information.

Please support and publicize these ideas.
