x Democracy Rallies, Forums, Teach-Ins

"People say, what is the sense of our small effort. They cannot see that we must lay one brick at a time." - Dorothy Day

Last September there was a very successful 'Climate March and Rally' in NYC with over 400,000 people participating. Here are some ideas for making these major events even more powerful across the country:

* Why not major rallies in several major cities across the country which are not near the major march/rally site?
* Why not many smaller supporting rallies in towns and small cities across the countries?

* When there is a major event of this type, we all should have a 4-6 sign in our car windows with 'Climate March, NYC 9/21' on the sign.

Also, we need regular 'Stand Up 4 Democracy Rallies/Forums/Teach-Ins, Film Series' in communities across the country. Events that are a 'call to action' in support of rebuilding our Democracy so it works for everyone.
In the last 35 to 40 years, policies that favor the wealthy, corporate elite over the public interests seem to be happening 90% of the time. This is not acceptable! We The People need to stand up and be counted!

Why is this important:

Massive cuts for programs that are in the public interest at the state and national levels in order to preserve tax loopholes and tax breaks for the wealthy, corporate interests are not acceptable.

Therefore, "We The People" need to stand up in support of democracy and says we've had enough and it is "time to":

  • Pass state and national budgets that work for "We The People".
  • Stop giving tax breaks and loopholes to the top 1% and service cuts (tax increases) for the other 99%.
  • Elect representatives that respond to "We The People" not the wealthy corporate interests.
  • Support environmental, public education, and public works projects  - don't destroy them.
  • Stop involvement in unnecessary wars and reduce our military budget (equal to rest of world combined) allowing us to 'fund our communities.'
  • Guarantee the right of workers to bargain collectively which is at the heart of democracy.
A regular 'call to action' public rally is only the first step to reclaiming our democracy for our children and grandchildren.

For change to occur, we need larger numbers of citizens to 'Stay Informed, Get Involved, and Take Action' so we can change the system to work for We The People.
